Phase 4B : Grey Matter

Dwelling and production - Diagram

MANIFESTO
GREY MATTER

This project proposition explores the question of reuse when architecture tries to reinvent itself between environmental or economical constraints. The reuse of construction materials highlights the fact that raw material aren't under our feet or on the other side of the world anymore, but in our cities, our buildings and infrastructures. It also means that already-used construction material isn't a waste to be evacuated far away (as before), but rather a valuable capital to be preserved. A whole new production chain must be invented and adapted to the city in order to reduce this waste and find a way of offering them a second life. The location, harvest, storage and process of these resources are here a way to settle an economical sustainable system.
Grey Matter is presented as an international architect collective, which manage the establishment of material reuse and process structures on abandoned sites, such as Riverton Service Apartments, soi Sukhumvit 13, Bangkok. We can imagine the development of the project through different steps, a Harvest Map, hire local populations, providing them formation and social aids, collect and process the materials, which are used to built the equipments of the site, or sold to create profits. From the agency's network, it is possible for volunteers to come and share working force or knowledge with the local populations hired. Furthermore, Grey Matter's network would provide project designs in which recycled and processed construction wastes find a second life.
