Due to the case study
of Lower Manhattan Expressway by Paul Rudolph earlier, Mega-structure can
change the way people live through arranging good public transportation,
increasing number of automobiles in the future, considering social engineering,
existing constraints and how far building technology goes.
I began to
question what was the development of public housing in Singapore, considering
their architecture evolution through out history and cultural aspects.
In this phase I began to analyze keys of
designing public housing in Singapore, and proposed the concepts and idea of
the future Singapore’s public housing. Public housing evolution relies on
public facilities, following their pattern of evolution, new technology of
material and construction, trends and propaganda and population statistics.
I came up with the idea of the building
that answers all constraints, a prefabricated public housing complex that
located in a small footprint, then expand at the top. Considering public space
as the important point in the project. The shapes inspired from nature, falling
motion of maple seeds, the design that good for aerodynamics as the high-rise
building. The twirl public space that mixed with circulation, wrapped the living
units core and create the landscaped feel within the building
