Phase 4: Architectural Elemet and School Design, Interactive Space

Architectural school in my interpretation is a place for gathering creativity and exchanging creative thoughts. Therefore, this school is designed to encourage people interaction.

Old Circulation

After we have got the site, I have tried to adjust the concept to the existing site which the problem that I initially found is the access. It is hard to access both from Phayathai road and the existing faculty building. Furthermore, the front door requires a key card to access which making access difficult for visitor.

New Circulation

I unbounded the wall from the main Phayathai road, which help visitors much more easier to access and participate the space.

Section shows connectivity

The section shows connection from the main Phayathai road to the existing front faculty building on the second floor.

Stadium-like Seating

All typologies that were chosen  are suitable for congregation, the stadium-like seating are placed at the third floor allowed both visitors and other department student to have participation for the event that occurring in the central hall area.

Studio Area

The steps are not just functioned as bypass to the upper floor but it is a structure that help supporting the main structure and it is wide enough to be a meeting space for studio area.

Axonomatric Section

The design of the entire building was influenced from the first phase research. These 2 buildings share the similar logic, both of their structural systems were designed to transfer the load to the edges in order to receive the open plan in the middle without using additional columns.

Research 1: Ingalls Skating Rink, Eero Saarinen

Research 2: Suan Amporn Pavilion, Amorn Sriwong

Ground Floor Plan

Starting with ground floor plan, the programs located on the ground floor are mostly for commercial area including book store and print shop, or the program that required loading dock including fabrication lab and storage. Exhibition area is also placed on the ground floor.

Exploded Axon

The structural system consists of 4 main concrete posts which support from ground all the way to the top, and 4 sub structure that specifically support stadium-like seating.

The steel pipe is functioned as facade hanging. There is 3 transparency levels that responded the program inside. Opaque for the lecture halls, translucent polycarbonate for seminar rooms, and transparent glass for studio area.
