Charoenkrung Connect
Old Fire Station, Charoenkrung
The selected site is located next to the river, in the past
it was a very lively with a big connection to the water since there were many
types of building around the site, also Thai people used to trade with Chinese
and European people, the pier used to serve many boats and ships that came to
this old custom building. After it
close, the building serves as a living space for the fireman nearby.
Nowadays, the site became expensive because the capitalism
turns the riverfront to very luxurious areas which make the government planning
to sell this site. After the building close, the site became very quiet because
the government don’t let people come inside which creates inequality and block
the access to the river.
Around the site, there are very active religious communities
working together. They have some shared ceremonies that took place in one of
their religious places which sometime creates conflict since they don’t share
the same belief.
I believe in a reprograming the activities and activation of
public space to enhance community living through the exploration of potential
for public space and future activities. Some of building in the site will be
demolished to allow people in the community to come to the new public space
which connect to the riverfront.
The main buildings will be used as collective dwelling and
working space for the fire department and water police department.
